Functional Threshold Power Gains In One Week
Here is the latest piece of data for Functional Threshold Power (FTP) gains in The Performance Lab.
Eric is a 19 year old U23 Category 1 mountain bike cross country racer competing in ProXCT events. The goal coming into The Performance Lab was to gather data on whether his FTP would be improved in just 3 one-hour sessions. He measured 397 watts for a 20 minute FTP test on Saturday, August 11th and 406 watts (his highest ever) for a 20 minute FTP test on August 19th for a 2.2% gain.
I am hypothesizing there will be an assimilation of the work we did and he will see further gains in FTP as his physiology changes. The plan is for Eric to do a second post-treatment FTP test 2 weeks after his first FTP test (with no additional Performance Lab treatments in between). The data from the second FTP test will reveal any additional power gains Eric made during the first two weeks of the assimilation of his three initial one-hour sessions. This will be possible if the air quality improves (from summer fires) prior to him having to leave for school. We will be writing up a full case study in a few weeks.
