Today, with health insurance changes and lack of career benefits, most of us do not have the luxury of nursing illness. We must work through it. I got the bug that was floating around, maintained work, kept up my running mileage and continue to make poor eating choices. Thus, my bug has continued relentlessly for a few weeks. I am an example of what not to do.
Whether you’re sick with the flu or not, protein will always be necessary in keeping your body strong. This could come in the form of poultry, fish, nuts and seeds. Vitamins B6 and B12 and minerals are powerful immune boosters. Some people swear by garlic to help ease congestion. And most importantly, stay hydrated. I’ve nursed coffees & sweetened drinks the length of this cold, which has not helped. Substitute these for hot water with lemon, it’ll feel good against the throat and, in my opinion, it’s very zen.
It’s common for patients to cancel their chiropractic appointment when they’re sick, but if you can increase the connection between brain and body, then you can speed up your recovery. The health of our immune system is directly related to the health of our nervous system – an adjustment can be the very thing to getting you back on your feet.
Take care of yourselves this flu season!
